108 Names of Ganesh | Ganesha Ashtottara Shatanamavali

Lord Shiva, the progenitor of Ganesha, is typically depicted as being encircled by Ganas. Shiva’s companions and attendants, the Ganas, are situated on Mount Kailash. Consequently, the terms “Ganapati” or “Ganesha” refer to the individual who serves as the leader of the Ganas.

It is believed that Lord Ganesha was born on the fourth day of Shukla Paksha (the waxing phase of the moon) in the Bhadrapada month of the Hindu calendar (August-September). This auspicious day is commemorated by devotees as Ganesha Chaturthi. Devotees carry home an idol of the deity on this auspicious day and worship it for 1/3/10 days in accordance with their family and local tradition. The festival is observed for a period of ten days in Maharashtra.

Vigneshwara, Vinayaka, Gajanana, Balachandra, Omkara, Lambodara, Heramba, and a multitude of other names are used to refer to the venerated deity of new beginnings. The Ganesha Ashtottara Shatanamavali, which is customarily chanted on Ganesh Chaturthi, contains 108 names for Him.
